Welcome to At the Intersections. This issue considers the pathways to specific health outcomes, from origins to expression. We track how the convergence of life experience and genetic risk can shape the development of conditions such as schizophrenia, and how the mechanics of that condition appear in the brain's own signaling. The view then widens to population health, examining the clinical approaches to identifying chronic viral infections that can persist undetected within a community.

When screening for hepatitis B, why is a single test not enough?
This research addresses how to screen adult patients for hepatitis B virus, as people may live in Canada for years before a diagnosis is made.

Are short bursts of a brain rhythm connected to disorganized speech in schizophrenia?
Research is exploring how disorganized thought in schizophrenia relates to disruptions in brain signaling. To investigate this, researchers recorded the brain activity of 25 patients with schizophrenia and 25 matched controls, then quantified specific brain wave dynamics and examined their association with speech features.
